What is Lampwork?

Lampworking is an age-old process of using a torch to melt glass. Colorful glass rods are melted around a mandrel, which creates a “bead”. The mandrel is kept turning and the glass kept molten until the bead is finished. In our beads, the ash is worked into the piece between layers of glass. All of our beads have an outer layer of clear glass. Then, the hot bead must be fired and tempered in a kiln to set and strengthen the glass. The bead is then released from the metal mandrel, cleaned and prepared for finishing. The entire process takes place over three days.
